Chinese Ambassador Pays Farewell Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs

Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen paid a farewell call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.

The State Minister appreciated the Ambassador’s role in strengthening Bangladesh-China relations. He said that the Ambassador’s work in Bangladesh had received tremendous visibility and appreciated his contribution to the successful visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to China. The State Minister mentioned that during Ambassador Wen’s tenure, China-Bangladesh relations have been elevated to a Shared Community level and a number of mechanisms, including State Minister-level 2+2 mechanism, are set to commence.

The Ambassador said it had been a great honour to serve in Bangladesh for three years and nine months. He congratulated the Foreign Minister on his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as a proud moment for Bangladesh.

The Ambassador reaffirmed that China would continue to support Bangladesh in its development journey. He also informed that the Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) is eager to undertake a visit to Bangladesh at the end of this year. He noted that the Minister has strong connections with Bangladesh, as his father had served as China’s Ambassador to Bangladesh and had presented his credentials to President Ziaur Rahman.

The State Minister expressed confidence that Bangladesh-China relations would continue to grow. He thanked the Ambassador for his service and wished him success in his new assignment. He said that their paths would cross again and expressed that Bangladesh was delighted to have had him serving in the country.
